Our Story

The North American Wagyu Zenkyo is inspired by Japan's legendary Zenkyo — held only once every five years and considered the "Wagyu Olympics" of the world. Our founding organizations, the Texas Wagyu Association and the American Akaushi Association, set out to create a North American equivalent: a premier event that celebrates Wagyu genetics, culinary culture, and community in equal measure.

The inaugural event in November 2025 brought together breeders, ranchers, chefs, and Wagyu enthusiasts from across the continent. The 2026 event expands that vision — more cattle classes, more culinary programming, and a growing community of people who believe that Wagyu beef is one of the most extraordinary agricultural achievements in history.

The Mission

To celebrate and advance Wagyu genetics in North America — honoring the Japanese tradition of excellence while building a uniquely American expression of the breed.

We believe that the best beef in the world deserves the best stage in the world.

The Breed

Wagyu — 和牛 — translates simply as "Japanese cattle." The breed's extraordinary marbling, tenderness, and flavor are the result of centuries of selective breeding in Japan, where cattle were treated as agricultural royalty.

North America is now home to some of the finest Wagyu genetics outside Japan. This event exists to showcase them.

The Community

From small family ranches to large commercial operations, from Michelin-starred restaurants to backyard BBQ pits — the Wagyu community in North America is diverse, passionate, and growing rapidly.

Zenkyo is where all of them gather.
